Frequently Asked Questions
What is the proper procedure for safely igniting my gas BBQ?
First open the grill lid to allow any gas buildup to disperse. Next, turn on the gas supply. Turn the control knob labelled "IGNITION BURNER" to the MAX position and then activate the INSTASTART™ ignition button. To light additional burners, turn their respective control knobs. Always confirm that you can see the flame in each burner to ensure they have ignited properly.
How long should I preheat my gas BBQ?
For optimal cooking, it is recommended to preheat your gas BBQ for 15–20 minutes before you start. Your BBQ is ready for cooking when the built-in thermometer indicates approximately 250°C. Preheat times may vary depending on weather conditions and burner performance.
Safety reminder: A working BBQ should be supervised at all times. Do not turn on the BBQ for preheating and leave it unattended.
What's the best way to clean the grates on my BBQ?
After preheating your BBQ, use a grill brush to scrub away any lingering debris from the grates. For a more comprehensive clean, remove the grates and soak them in warm, soapy water.
It is not recommended to clean the grates in a dishwasher as this can damage the porcelain coating. After cleaning and drying the grates, lightly coat them with cooking oil to help prevent food from sticking.
How frequently should I inspect the gas lines and connections?
Check the gas lines and connections at least annually or at the start of the BBQ season. Examine them for cracks, holes or signs of wear and tear.
You can use soapy water around connection areas and watch for bubbles, which may indicate a gas leak. If you have concerns or identify a potential issue, consult a certified plumber or gas fitter.
What is the proper way to store my gas bottle when it's not in use?
Propane tanks should always be stored in a well-ventilated area and protected from direct sunlight. Indoor or enclosed storage, such as a garage, is not advisable.
If you store the gas bottle under the BBQ, make sure the knob on the gas regulator connected to the gas bottle is securely set to the "CLOSE" position.
What should I do if I detect a gas odour from my BBQ?
If you smell gas, immediately shut off the gas supply, extinguish any open flames and disconnect the gas bottle. Evacuate the area around the BBQ for safety.
If the gas smell persists, contact emergency services or your gas supplier as appropriate.
Why isn't my BBQ reaching the desired temperature?
The Coleman Revolution BBQ is designed to reach cooking temperatures efficiently under normal conditions. With all burners on MAX and the lid closed, it should reach over 200°C within approximately 15 minutes and approximately 280°C within 25 minutes.
Performance can vary depending on:
- Outdoor temperature
- Sun exposure
- Wind or breeze
Possible causes include:
- Low gas supply: Check whether your gas bottle is empty or nearly depleted.
- Blocked burners: Food residue or grease buildup can block burner holes.
- Wind interference: Relocate the BBQ to a more sheltered area if necessary.
- Regulator issues: If you suspect a regulator problem, seek assistance from a qualified professional.
Safety reminder: Only clean the burners after the BBQ has completely cooled, and always disconnect the gas supply before performing maintenance.
How can I minimise the risk of flare-ups during grilling?
An accumulation of excess fat and oil commonly causes flare-ups. The risk is substantially reduced when using Coleman Revolution's Flare-Free® Technology™. To further minimise the chance of flare-ups, maintain a clean grill by emptying the drip tray and Flare-Free cup after each use.
Can I convert my propane BBQ to a natural gas BBQ?
Conversion from propane to natural gas is possible, but it must be performed by a certified plumber or gas fitter. To help ensure your warranty remains valid, keep written proof of the conversion completed by the licensed professional.
Coleman is unable to provide support, parts or guidance for these conversions due to liability limitations.
How can I remove fine scratches from stainless steel?
Clean the surface first using a commercial stainless-steel cleaner or warm, soapy water and a microfiber cloth. For suitable uncoated stainless steel surfaces, fine scratches may be minimised by gently buffing in the direction of the grain using an appropriate fine-grit abrasive.
Avoid harsh cleaners and abrasive scrubbing pads, and always clean along the grain. Coated, painted or heavily damaged surfaces may require professional repair.
